During the lecture, Prof. Alonso presented her ground-breaking approaches in the area of nanotechnology for the design of innovative nano-carrier systems. These systems enable the transport of sensitive molecules such as peptides, siRNA or antigens through biological barriers and into the target tissue.
Besides scientific topics, Prof. Alonso discussed entrepreneurship, career planning, and academic networking with PhD students from the Graduate School MacroBio.

The New Year’s lecture series at the Institute of Biomaterial Science was initiated in 2016. Guest Lecturers are internationally renowned scientists. Former lecturers were Prof. Stoyan Smoukov (Queen Mary University, London), Prof. József Karger-Kocsis (Budapest University for Economics and Technology) and Prof. Joseph Kost (Ben-Gurion, University of the Negev, Israel).
